Prenuptial

Prenuptial photography is a collection of photographs taken of one or both members of the engaged couple, and typically given one at a time to the spouse-to-be in the weeks or months leading up to the wedding. The purpose is to keep the excitement alive during the stress of planning for the wedding, to give an indication that there is a "light at the end of the tunnel," and to build excitement and anticipation for the wedding day—or the wedding night.

Typically, the process of doing prenuptial photography is as follows:

  1. The bride-to-be makes an appointment with Dave Arns of Arns Photography for a photo shoot. The photo shoot can be at the Arns Photography studio, or at the location of your choice. If you desire a shoot at a location other than the Arns Photography studio, Dave will bring the necessary cameras and lighting equipment.
  2. She arrives at the studio (or Dave arrives at the prearranged location), and she has several changes and styles of clothing: normal clothes, casual wear, pajamas, lingerie, whatever she chooses. She might also have various "hand props"—items that are especially meaningful to her and her husband-to-be.
  3. Photos are taken of her, wearing the various kinds of clothing she brought, and her poses might include those that would remind the groom-to-be of some of their favorite activities, foods, hobbies, and so forth, or just tantalizing glimpses of what awaits him after they are married. Note that Arns Photography does not do pornographic shots, and reserves the right to decline photographing certain poses if they are deemed too sexually explicit.
  4. Arns Photography puts all the photos onto a CD within a few days, which the bride-to-be picks up, or it can be mailed to her.
  5. She selects the best pictures, and informs Arns Photography which photos she wants, along with captions if desired, and the sizes to be printed. Since these pictures and their captions are for the groom-to-be, they typically include things of emotional value to the couple, including pet names and other "secret" things. (Again, Arns Photography reserves the right to edit or omit captions that are deemed excessively explicit.)
  6. Arns Photography cleans up the selected photos if necessary, adds the captions, and prints them in the requested size (available sizes are 8"x10", 5"x7", 4"x6", and wallet-sized). Or to make it more personal, she could print them herself and add the captions in her own handwriting.
  7. The bride-to-be picks up the prints (or they are mailed to her) and then carefully, strategically, places them every so often where the groom-to-be will find them and get more and more excited about, and eager for, the upcoming wedding. Examples include: in his briefcase, car, or sock drawer, on his computer keyboard, bulletin board, car's glove compartment, billfold, bathroom mirror, and so forth.

The above description assumes that the woman is having the photos done for her husband-to-be, because that is most commonly done, but it can be equally as exciting and anticipation-building for the man to have the photos done for his bride-to-be. The process is the same as above, except the roles are reversed. If both the man and the woman desire a prenuptial photo shoot, it should probably be done as two separate shoots, because the main attraction to this kind of photography is the pleasant surprise and excitement that each newly discovered photo gives.
